Course Description:
IMTC’s Intermediate ICS class explores Incident Command System (ICS) organizational and operational issues in more detail, identifying when ICS should be applied and how it is optimally-implemented with NIMS compliance under “All-Hazard” situations. The ICS Planning Process, resource management, and ICS position duties are given special focus with real-life examples that demonstrate the practical value of ICS principles in real incidents and authentic pre-incident planning sessions.
Selected Course Objectives:
The IMTC Intermediate ICS course prepares ICS-qualified team members for additional NIMS-compliant supervisory responsibility when called on to participate in real- time/real Incident Command System situations. After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the general duties of the organizational elements, terminology, staffing considerations, and reporting relationships within each section of the ICS.
- Describe the steps in transferring and assuming incident command.
- List the major elements included in the incident briefing.
- Describe how incidents can best be managed by appropriate and early designation of primary staff members and by proper Delegation of Authority.
- Describe how Unified Command functions in a multi-jurisdictional or multi-agency incident.
- Describe the role and use of forms in effective incident management.
- List the major steps and personnel involved in the planning process.
- Explain the use of operational periods in the planning process and how operational periods are derived.
Course Length:
24 (minimum) – 32 hours of instruction, depending on requestor’s needs.
Target Audience:
Personnel with ICS supervisory responsibility and members of Incident Management Teams at or above the Unit Leader level.
