Course Description:
Basic ICS from IMTC is the NIMS-compliant required course preparing students for ICS participation by exploring the 12 basic principles and operational features of the Incident Command System through five (5) experiential learning modules covering:
- ICS Principles in Action – theory at work
- The ICS organization – a structural overview
- Incident facilities – needs and demands
- Incident resources – managing effectively in the ICS environment
- ICS responsibilities - common and/or unique to each incident
Selected Course Objectives:
Basic ICS prepares individuals to assume first-line single resource roles, to develop additional responsibility, and to deliver added ICS value when called on to participate in real-time/real Incident Command System situations. After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe and explain the use or purpose of each of the twelve (12) principal ICS features.
- Explain how the incident organization expands or contracts to meet operational needs of the incident or event.
- List the essential elements of information involved in Transfer of Command.
- Describe an ICS organization appropriate to a small incident using an Incident Briefing Form (ICS 201).
- Describe the three (3) resource status conditions used at an incident and the purpose and limits associated with each.
- List actions to be accomplished prior to leaving for an incident or event and the steps involved in incident check-in.
- List the major steps necessary in the incident or event demobilization process.
Course Length:
16 hours of basic instruction.
+8 hours for customization to requestor needs.
Target Audience:
First-level supervisory personnel working with ICS implementation.
